If you've ever been to Utah, you know it can be a little quirky. There isn't a Starbucks or coffee shop on every corner. Breakfast places while I'm sure plentiful are rather hard to find. And, where the heck do you buy summer tank tops?
Utah is a beautiful state. Just a little quirky. If you can navigate those, you'll open the door to endless adventure.
Quirk No. 1
The left lane is not the fast lane. In fact... try the middle two of six. Also, expect a wide range of skill levels in driving ability.
Quirk No. 2
In a state full of non-coffee drinkers.... become a barista. Because man... we need more coffee shops. Good ones. Did you know Provo announced this year they will open their first Starbucks ever? Word to the wise, if you don't drink coffee, don't brew it. Perk... Starbucks didn't run out of the reusable holiday cups before 6:30am on me this year.
Quirk No. 3
This isn't as much of a quirk as it is advice. Before embarking on a hiking adventure with your fur family, make sure said adventure isn't in a watershed. No doggos allowed in the watersheds.
Quirk No. 4
You can cut down your own Christmas tree for a small fee of $10. That is, if you can get yourself deep enough into the forest to then identify the right kind of pine tree and somehow haul it's dead weight out. You can count on me trying this one of these years.
Quirk No. 5
Grass. It's the single most difficult thing to keep alive yet green in the heat of summer yet we all fight the fight year after year.
Quirk No. 6
The rain does not wash your car. It makes it dirty. Literally... dirt... everywhere.
Quirk No. 7
Fry sauce. It's delicious. The ranch habit is a hard one to break though.
Quirk No. 8
Going back to that tank top statement. And we are talking about tank tops to wear as a shirt here.... not under tanks or PJ tanks. They are seriously difficult to find. Do a little research and you'll learn why.
Quirk No. 9
Throwback! Everything is closed on Sunday. Also, take note. This is the best day of the week to go grocery shopping or make that Costco run.
Quirk No. 10
This is quite possibly the best place to injure yourself. There is a hospital every half mile. Maybe not literally but they are everywhere. Same with dentists. Drive 5 minutes in any direction and you'll run into both along with a car wash and some sort of burger/shake place.
Realistically, there are more than 10 quirks. When you can't find your morning coffee, laugh a little and look for a Target. Starbucks is guaranteed. Utah is a great state. Safe, beautiful, did I mention the best snow on Earth thing yet? Ride the wave and let the quirkiness serve as entertainment.
